Dear Leslie, I am one of the students assigned to Magic and now the spotted john mule that has made Virginia Tech’s Animal Science department very proud. I was looking at your website today and thought I would send you an update about little muley boy. Our barn name for him is VT Legend Has It.. Since we never had a mule before. He is an absolute angle. He’s smarter than all of the other foals we have in the pasture and is very well mannered. This is my first experience with a breeding of this type and it has been a very rewarding experience. Thanks for giving us “props” on your website. Good Luck!!
Sincerely,
Well Ladies and Gentleman,
My cup runnith over today!!!
Anyone who has delved into the very bowels of my website may have come across
the blurb about and photos of The VA. Tech Dept of Animal and Poultry
Science's Mares.
Last year Montana was chosen to
sire the first two mule foals in their program, I was SO honored because most
of their breedings' are donated and they were buying Montanans' service. THEN
when the check came in they had booked TWO mares. Well someone needed to tie a
string around my big toe to pull my fat head down off the ceiling that day!!!
Well today I got a call from the
collage, Magic the thoroughbred mare presented them with a gray and white
spotted mule foal about two weeks ago, a little early but a fine healthy john
mule he is. Ahem, excuse me for braggin' but SPECTACULAR was the word used to
describe him!! The barns there are open to the public and Ann said that the
boy (no name yet) is causing traffic jams!!!! So many people are parking
on the way in and hanging on the fence to watch him!!! The students love him
and are all ready requesting him for their project next year!! Photos of the
foal will be posted as soon as I get them.
Whew, what great news on top of
the arrival of Mamasans beautiful jennet foal this morning.
Happy Trails,
Leslie
Well here are the
pictures as promised. http://www.bsi.vt.edu/dunning/vthorses/EGFoalGroup/Legend.html
I sure felt honored when Ann Dunnington, agent for the VA. Tech Dept of Animal and Poultry Science's called to book a mare to "Montana". Especially since the mares, and a lot of the stallion services are donated! Ann had seen our ad in the "Horse and Livestock trader" paper out of Galex, VA. Well, when the contracts came back the VA. Tech Dept of Animal and Poultry Science's had booked two mares! "Magic" a thoroughbred and "Adannie" a Hanoverian. These will be the VERY FIRST mule foals born at Virginia Tech!
The students foal out the mares, imprint the foals and supervise their training until the colts and fillies (in this case john or molly!) until they are two years old when at that time they are sold at Virginia Tech's production sale. Although Ann had probably been captivated by Montana's suave and debonair good looks (and who wouldn't be!) The fact of the mater remained, that having two mule foals would be a valuable teaching asset to the college teaching program and a boon for the students at the VA. Tech Dept of Animal and Poultry Science's. Montana and I are honored to participate in this valuable program! I'll keep you updated on "Magic" and "Adannie" throughout their pregnancies and the two (I hope) mule foals who went to college.
Later. . . . . . . .
