USE THESE TIPS TO UP YOUR ODDS FOR CONCEPTION Using CTS, cooled transported semen, you have the option of breeding your mare to one of the finest Jacks nationwide with none of the risks or inconveniences involved with shipping, hauling or leaving your mare at another barn. FIRST find a veterinarian who is WELL VERSED in this type of equine reproduction. The use of CTS can save you money, but only if your mare settles quickly. The more often the CTS process has to be repeated the higher your costs will go. DISCUSS a breeding management program with your veterinarian. All mares should have a breeding soundness exam. An experienced broodmare specialist can spot an avert potential problem in your mare so she is ready for breeding. This includes treatment of uterine infections and inflammations and correction of poor vulvar conformation, or pooling urine. FOCUS ON TIMING! Don't try to cut corners. Teasing alone is not adequate to pinpoint the correct time to breed when using CTS. To order semen so it arrives within the narrow window for conception, your vet will need to monitor your mares cycle via ultrasound and palpation. For the best chance of conception your mare must be insemeninated within the 24 hour period prior to ovulation. Semen should be used within 12 hours of receipt. Success with this method requires a TEAM EFFORT between you, the mare owner, and your vet and myself. TAKE CONTROL OF WHEN YOU BREED YOUR MARE! Due to business constraints I will not be able to make any trips to the airport this year; a 4 hour, 140 mile round trip for me; so please don't ask. I will ship Monday through Friday with Federal Express and they do not deliver on Saturday to many parts of the country. Also, they charge $10.00 extra for Saturday delivery. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND putting your mare on Regumate, planning for ovulation on Tuesday through Friday. Our clients who do this have had GREAT SUCCESS. YOU HAVE ORDERED SEMEN. When you semen arrives, have your mare clean and ready to inseminated BEFORE OPENING THE EQUITAINER. ALWAYS scope the semen BEFORE inseminating the mare. Occasionally semen will die in transit. Inseminating your mare with a dead load of semen can set her up for an inflammation making it at best, harder to achieve conception, at worst, causing you to lose a breeding season. DO NOT pre-warm semen before insemination. The best place for semen to warm up is in the mare. POST BREEDING . Following breeding, your mare should be examined for conception at 17 to 20 days; if pregnant, again at 35 to 50 days to see if she has maintained pregnancy, then again at 100 days when she is considered "safe in foal". Thank you so much for considering Montana for your mare. Sincerely, P.S.
