Essay III Due Tuesday, 13 April.
Rearrange the seven deadly sins of the Middle Ages according to American society’s standards today, and according to your own standards. Make three short lists: Dante’s, today’s society, and your arrangement. The sins don't all have to be exactly the same as the list that Dante worked from, but there's no reason to exchange or add more then two. The seven that are listed are pervasive. Explain to your audience the differences and reasons for those differences in Dante’s order and today’s American society’s order. Then discuss how your order explains who you are or how and why your values are different than other Americans. And what seems to have changed since the Middle Ages that would change or affect traditional moral mores Consider what has changed in the world that has affected the latter two lists.
This essay should be about four pages in length. If you use any outside sources—Internet, books, magazines, a short interview with your pastor or priest or rabbi, etc.—be sure to cite them in the text of your essay and document them on a works cited page. It is not necessary that you use any outside sources other than the prefatory material in your text.
