Three exams will include questions relating directly to the text, handout material, information on specific web sites found on the course home page (http://www.usipp.com/rfrancka ), and lecture.  The information in your text that introduces each author and literary period could also be part of the tests.  Read and enjoy your texts!

Four essays will each be explications—relatively short (3-4 pp.) essays that will address characters, plot, setting, point of view, theme, and comparison of different texts.  More specific instructions will be provided when they are assigned.

There will be no research essay for ENG 205  Spring 2004.

Weekly quizzes will cover names, places, events. Nothing tricky or nit picky, just a verification that you’ve read the assignment and have thought about what was going on—the interaction between the characters, the role of the setting, if any, the significance of the plot: the order of the scenes that drive the narrative ahead.
